Spray foam is a chemical product created by two materials, mineral wool and binder, which react when mixed with each other. Once the wire mesh is in place over the turbine surface which is to be insulated, the spray foam is then sprayed onto the surface through a gun. Once dry, the entire sprayed surface is covered with hard-setting cement - in order to achieve a uniform surface.
Foam usually expands up to 30-60 times its liquid volume after it is sprayed in place. It provides excellent resistance to air infiltration. Spray foam insulation can be blown into turbine surfaces, machinery, and equipment to insulate and reduce thermal leakage. Spray foam is good for the smallest cavities, creating an effective air barrier.
